BLOOD SUCKING PHARAOHS IN PITTSBURGH

"Laugh your head off... literally"

Two inept, bumbling detectives are on the trail of a series of brutal murders. With the help of a meter maid, they follow the trail of hieroglyphic notes left at the murder scenes, which lead them to Cairo Town and an ancient Egyptian ritual. But before they can solve the case, they need to get past their own problems and pull together. First you have Joe Blocker (Joe Sharkey) who hates women because his wife left him because of a "sexual problem" and who pukes at every murder scene at the site of blood. Then you have Sweeney Birdwell (Jake Dengel) whose wife puts chain smoking into a whole new perspective and constantly asks him if the victims were pretty. Throw in Deedee Taylor (Susann Fletcher), a meter maid from Las Vegas who can link the murders together, and is the only sense of normality in the group. Put all this in the mix and you have a hilariously, blood and guts soaked rollercoaster of fun madness (effects done by Tom Saivini). Will this trio of misfits get past their own differences and crack the case? Or will these misfits get cracked themselves?

This by far is a cult classic in my book. This film has it all; laughs that don't stop, extreme blood and guts done by the master himself, Tom Savini, and a mystery plot that'll keep you guessing. This is truly an exceptionally fun film to watch. This is one of those "party films". Invite a bunch of friends over, kick back a few brewskies, and pop this baby in. Guaranteed for a fun night.

The acting is really good, I think. I say I think because the characters are literally bumbling idiots and they play the part well. Either their acting ability was written into the script that way, or their acting was very well done in playing their type of character.  Sometimes you actually wonder, but hell, it's still hilarious either way. A good point though, they don't drag out the bickering to the point where you get bored. It gets taken just to the level, where you just begin to stop laughing. They take it no further than that, which is a good thing; otherwise it would kill the fun of these characters.

The effects couldn't be better. Hell, the effects were done by Tom Savini, need I say more? Some awesome and original effects. The killer pulls around a wagon with a generator on it, and carries and uses an assortment of power tools. He cuts the top of a woman's head off and scoops out her brains, impales a woman with a parking meter, and one of my personal favorites, sticks the end of a vacuum in a women's mouth and sucks out her digestive tract, then a little dog for good measure. These are only a few of the awesome effects you'll see here.

If you can still find this little gem anywhere, I highly recommend it. This isn't just half comedy and half horror, but the mixture and the way it's interwoven together is what makes this film so fun. This also has one of the funniest subplots I've seen. Sweeney's wife tries to quit smoking, and her therapy itself is worth checking this film out. Not to be missed. I rate this a 7.75 out of 10 puking homicide detectives at the site of blood.
